2026-2027: Sommerfield enters his second year working in Gators athletics.
Coach Sommerfield played for the Gators men's basketball team from 2017-2019 for current head Coach Godfrey Drake, where he was all-region selection.
After that Sommerfield transferred to the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he played for the men's basketball team and graduated with his bachelors degree in digital journalism. He was awarded GNAC and NABC all-academic honors while at UAF.
From 2021-22 he competed for the Lewis-Clark State College men's basketball team where he was awarded CoSIDA Academic All-District and NABC Honors Court. While at LC State, Sommerfield received a Graduate Certificate in Sport Coaching.
He was previously the head men's basketball coach at Whatcom Community College from 2022-2025.
