Kent, Wash. — The Gators trailed, tied it back up, trailed again, tied it up again, then took the lead in a match that ended in a draw.
A foggy morning turned into a blue-sky afternoon at Wilson Playfields for a back-and-forth game between Green River and rival Highline.
The Thunderbirds opened the scoring in the 28th minute on a penalty kick. They maintained the 1-0 advantage through the first half.
Jazmyne DuBose got the Gators on the scoreboard three minutes into the second half after a cross from
Autumn Carroll from the right wing. DuBose tapped it in past the lunge of the Thunderbird keeper, for her eighth goal on the year. The assist was Carroll's fifth.
The score stayed knotted up for 12 minutes until Highline took the lead back in the 59th minute.
The green and black would not trail for long. Eight minutes later,
Luci Ramey scored the equalizer on a break away down the left sideline. Her left foot helped the ball find the top left corner of the goal; the leap from Highline's goalie was no match for the power behind Ramey's shot.
Alani Escareno had the long assist on the play. The goal was Ramey's 11th on the season, the sixth most in the NWAC and second most in the West Region. The assist was Escareno's second.
In the 76th minute, Green River pulled ahead. A cross dropped to Ramey's feet outside the penalty box; her touch guided the ball to
Bria Alabe, who snuck one in to the bottom left corner of the net. Alabe has now scored five goals this campaign; Ramey tallied her second assist. GRC had the 3-2 advantage.
Highline scored the equalizer in the 84th minute.
The Gators outshot the Thunderbirds 15-13. Their third tie of the season brought the Gators even with Centralia in the west standings at 4-3-3; both programs currently sit in fourth ahead of their Saturday matchup. One spot outside the playoffs.
